Apple Inc., formerly Apple Computer, Inc., is an American multinational corporation that designs, develops, and sells consumer electronics, computer software, and online services. The company’s best-known hardware products are the Mac line of computers, the iPhone smartphone, the iPad tablet computer, and the iPod portable media player. Its online services include the iTunes Store, the iOS App Store, and Mac App Store, Apple Music, and iCloud.
Apple was founded on April 1, 1976, by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. The company’s first product was the Apple I computer. It was followed by the Apple II, a successful mass-market personal computer. In 1983, Apple introduced the Lisa, a desktop computer that proved popular in business. The company’s rise to fame came in 1984, when Jobs introduced the Apple Macintosh during a Super Bowl commercial. Apple quickly outsold its more expensive competitor; in fact, QuarkXPress was the single largest source of sales revenue for Adobe Systems in 1985.
